Elections to fill two vacant parent positions for the school council will be held on Tuesday, September 20th, 2016 during the Title I Parent Meeting @ 5:00. The school council is comprised of parents, teachers, SMS principal, and business representatives from the community. Nominations for the positions must be made by submitting names by Tuesday, September 13, 2016. Names can be submitted by dropping them off at the main office of SMS, emailed, or mailed to Swainsboro Middle School.

The following apply to potential representatives: Members must have a school-wide point of view about helping SMS improve student achievement. Must be the parent or guardian of a child who currently attends SMS or be employed by or own a business that operates within Emanuel County. A school district employee who works at SMS cannot be a parent or business representative on the SMS School Council. (SMS teachers elect two teachers to serve on the council for two year terms. The principal also serves as a council member by law.) Members must attend all meetings and required training sessions. There will be a minimum of 4 meetings per year. Payment of council members for service on the council is NOT allowed. Terms are for two years. Current members may seek re-election.
